Rail Tech Group support Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited - in successful completion & commissioning of Phase 1a and 1b of the North Erewash Re-signalling Project

The project has operated under Network Rails "Hub and Spoke" contract arrangements for the East Midlands re-signalling portfolio, and is the first of the major Type A signalling projects to be delivered; as such, it represents a significant milestone for the industry. Central phase 1a was the installation of a new WESTCAD control system, together with a train describer and four SSIs at Trent PSB. 99 LED signals were commissioned as well as 32 point ends, 145 axle counters and five track circuits. Two level crossings have been converted to manually controlled barriers protected by CCTV, resulting in the closure of two gate boxes. Phase 1b of the project, which entailed the implementation of similar technology, was commissioned in September 2008. This involved the implementation of the signalling control of the scheme, along with the re-control of Phase1a from Trent PSB - based in the new East Midlands Control Centre at Derby. Throughout the scheme Rail Tech Group supplied skilled signaling technicians through a unique outsourcing arrangement that clearly reduced the WRSL out turn cost of delivery, through the joint elimination of unnecessary costs. The Rail Tech Technicians were seamlessly integrated into the WRSL workforce and deployed to undertake activities including: *Axle Counter Installation *HW Points Installation *LED Signal Installation *Cable termination in S.S.I locations *CCTV work at level crossings Rail Tech Group's Managing Director (Simon Jamieson) stated "We are particularly pleased with our performance at North Erewash as we see it as the first success in implementing a new approach to an existing customer relationship. The most satisfying aspect was that through earlier engagement we were able to select and then subsequently train local people to the Erewash area that generated major employment cost savings throughout the delivery stages that we then simply passed back to our customer through reduced rates and charges".
