Re-furbishment of Signal Gantry Walkboarding
The Rail Tech Group R&SE Ltd were awarded a competitively sourced contract by Network Rail to undertake the refurbishment of signal gantry walkway boards on five signal structures. These were located on the Midland Main Line between Cricklewood and Sandridge. The refurbishments were required due to the poor / life expired condition of the wooden walkway boards on all five structures.
The main scope of the works was to replace the existing walkway boards with new timber boards, install new anti-slip top surfaces to the new boards and install a kick board to the lower section of the hand rails.
This was achieved by replacing the existing timber boards to the existing walkways and dropper floors with new Grade C16 treated timber boards. All existing fittings were removed, refurbished and then refitted. The walkway boards were split into sections spanning three structural cross members. Work started at the ladder end of the structure and the redundant walkway boards of the first section were removed and replaced with new timbers. The trap doors were then removed from their existing position and refurbished at ground level. The hinges and clasps were then removed and refurbished, new timber was cut to size and an anti-slip surface was then fixed to the new timber and the refurbished fittings refitted to the new trap door.
All works were delivered within possessions and isolations arranged and staffed by Network Rail.
