Case Studies
At present Rail Tech Group are involved in a number of major Type A re-signalling projects supplying skilled IRSE signalling technicians to many of the traditional 1st tier railway signalling companies such as Invensys, Atkins and Signalling Solutions Ltd. Other customers include Amey Rail, Carillion, Balfour Beatty, May Gurney, Volker Fitzpatrick, Chiltern Railways, DB Schenker, South Eastern Railways, Jacobs, Kier, Barhale Rail, BAM Nuttall and TfL.
In addition to supporting the UK's large re-signalling schemes over the last 4 year period, Rail Tech Group has directly delivered over 475 minor projects and renewals for Network Rail alone, ranging in value from £5,000 - £1.8 million.
Rail Tech Group also support projects on the LUL infrastructure and this is growing area of its business.

Depford Station Redevelopment Signalling works
The £7Million Depford Station redevelopment programme was jointly funded by Lewisham Council and the National Station Improvement Programme.

Re-furbishment of Signal Gantry Walkboarding
The Rail Tech Group R&SE Ltd were awarded a competitively sourced contract by Network Rail to undertake the refurbishment of signal gantry walkway boards on five signal structures.

Great Chesterford Re-Signalling Work
The primary objective of the Great Chesterford Re-Signalling scheme was to modernise an existing free wired RRI signalling interlocking system with a newly interfaced SSI interlocking system.

North Fambridge Platform Extension
The main aim of the North Fambridge Loop Extension project was to provide the appropriate infrastructure to facilitate the introduction of 12 car trains between Liverpool Street and Wickford stations.

Birmingham New Street - Drivers Access Walkway & Associated Works
Birmingham New Street is the main railway station serving the city of Birmingham, located in the city centre. It is ranked as the busiest in the United Kingdom outside London with 40.1 million annual visitors. New Street was frequently derided as one of the most run-down and unwelcoming of all the major stations on the British railway network, with only 52% of the public satisfied.

King's Lynn Signal Box Works
Signalling life extension works were required at King Lynn station in order to keep it fully operational until 2022 when the area is likely to then be resignalled. Rail Tech Group undertook various installation activities on behalf of May Gurney.

As part of Network Rail’s MAFA Enhancement portfolio, Barhale Rail were awarded a contract by Network Rail to extend platforms 1 & 2 at Billingshurst Station.

North Pole Turn-Back Facility
The introduction of a new passenger service by Southern between South Croydon and Shepherds Bush in December 2009 required the facility to turn back trains after leaving Shepherds Bush station. The departure road from the mothballed Eurostar North Pole Depot was identified as appropriate for this purpose and had to be adapted to suit

Margate Cable Renewals / Track Slews
To facilitate the line speed upgrade in the Margate station area it was necessary to the slew the Down Main line leading into the station itself over a distance of 300 yards.

Strategic Fault Team Cover
In response to the Train Operating Companies running a greater frequency of trains on the WCML, Rail Tech Group Fault Finding and Maintenance teams have been asked to cover strategic junctions on the WCML on behalf of Network Rail.
